ان هذا الكتاب من أكثر الكتب ذائعة التأثير فى الوعى الإنساني ، خاصة إذا تعلق الأمر بشؤون الحُكم , وبالنظام الإداري و السياسي ..
وعلى ان سُمعته السيئة لدى الناس بمُختلف ثقافاتهم ، إلا أنه يبقى تراثاً إنسانياً احدث نقلة هائلة فى تأسيس الدول ونُظم الإدارة والحكم .
تم تأليف الكتاب فى عام 1513 ، وصدرت فى عام 1532 طبعته الأولى ، أي فى فترة القرون الوسطى ,, وكان ميكيافيللي يهدف من خلاله نقل خبراته السياسية فى الإدارة والحكم إلى الأمير ( لورنزو دي ميديتشي ) ، ليعلمه كيف يصل إلى السلطة ويحتفظ بها..
فيما بعد تم الإعتماد بشكل كبير علي على هذا الكتاب من قبل الدول الأوروبية فى أساليب الحُكم والإدارة ، ولا يُمكن لأحد إلى يومنا هذا – حتى مُنتقدي الكتاب – أن يُنكر دور ماجاء فيه من نصائح وتوجيهات فى مُنتهى الدهاء والذكاء السياسي ، مازال حتى اليوم بعض الساسة ينتهجون هذه القواعد ، وتؤتى ثمارها على أفضل نحو ممكن !
